Second day of racing at Punta Ala for the A-Class 2024 Italian Nats. The warm-up regatta looking forward the massive World Championship regatta coming next week: 180 registered boats, about 90 Classic floating mode and 90 Foilers.
There were doubts back in the day when Foiling started taking over the A-Class, I remember some wanting to ban them, and Landy being President at the time i think did a good job trying to maintain all fleets together, 2015 already a 1st floating trophy was awarded to Scott Anderson.
Now with the split of the fleets and with due transition and all sailors looking which fleet suit them best, the A-Class has managed to keep both camps under the same umbrella, which is a great outcome.
Huge Worlds event coming next week at Punta Ala, we will be following this time around from BA, but we were lucky to witness live that historic 2015 Worlds battler between Mischa & Ashby. R&D wheel keeps turning but one thing is for sure, Mischa Heemskerk will be there leading the innovation route.
New DN Ice boat like rig seems to be performing but not breaking the fleet still. Mischa won the regatta with bullets for Ravi, Brewin , Bundy and Micha himseld this weekend in good foiling conditions. Lets see at the Worlds with Kuba Suroviec, current World Champ entering the competition.
