F18 Worlds 2010: Possible redress for Hugh Styles

Hugh Styles and Ferdinand Van West were 3rd last year and I pointed them as possible contenders for 2010. With an excellent start at Erquy, Yesterday they had two strange DNF, Simon Northtrop tell us the story below.

From Simon Northtrop: “Just heard that Hugh is getting redress for race 8 and 9 (Average Points from all races) as he had a collision with a press boat just after the start of race 7 and was slowly sinking, he managed to finish race 7 with one hull full of water – noticed whilst watching the tracker that he has had a good race 10 so will be pushing hard for the title still !!!!”

Current scores for Styles-Van West after 9 Races:

30 GBR 7 STYLES Hugh VAN WEST F 195 206 2 3 3 5 8 -11 12 DNF DNF

Possible Score after redress:

3? GBR 7 STYLES Hugh VAN WEST F 44 56,6 2 3 3 5 8 -11 12 6,29* 6,29*

And today it seems they had a good 10th regatta with a possible 2 as per TracTrac behind WilsonLynch

Redress is likely to apply only to the scores in the gold fleet.

Redress is applied when a sailor feels his result, commonly a bad one, has been influenced by a another sailor or third party, in this case a press rib.
Styles asked for redress as he couldn´t finish the races due to external causes in this case, the jury agreed and he was awarded with his average scores.
