F18 Europeans 2022: Day 2 Results

Second day for the 2022 F18 Europeans at Circlo Vela Arco, Lake Garda. Yesterday no races were held on early storms and later too much wind. Today the fleet went out 8.30AM, but they were left around an 1.30hs waiting for a start.

First two races for each fleet went to our Argie mates, Cruz Gonzalez Smith-Mariano Heuser and Agustin Krevisky-Juan Martín Benitez (both Scorpion/1D). Way to start for the 2021 Worlds #2 & #3.
Following races were not that walk in the park for the South Americans and the large list of contenders put pressure to even things around.

Demesmaeker-Tas (Akurra-Goodall) followed with two bullets and Noregaard-Jarvinen (Scorpion-1D) a bullet and a 2nd. Argies went back to charge in race 3 with another bullet for Cruz & Mariano with a perfect port start to win by ‘miles’.
All was setup for a super tight top 5, but the dying wind on race 4th was a mess (check Parent protest below) and many top riders like the Argies, Noregaard ,Booth and Parent got caught no wind plus a shortened course. That 4th race was protested by several riders, but RC declined any protest on the matter.

Burvill-Puttman (Edge-Nxt Gen) scored a bullet in 4th race in the yellow fleet and secured a pretty consistent day to secure a 2nd overall behind Demesmaeker-Tas who controlled the Blue fleet on the Goodall Akurra scoring 3,1,1 & 4.

German Nats winners from past week, Bader-Bjomholt (Nacra Evo) currently 3rd overall.

Live updates: Provisional results just in, but several protests against the Race Committee on Race #4. Check protest by Ravi Parent below.

Still Demesmaeker & Tas (Goodall Akurra) will lead, same as overall #2 & #3.

Update: All protests for Race 4 were declined by the Race Committee.

Later more details, and pics if available.

“Description Of Incident
Race 4 began in a northerly. The race committee had the heading to mark 1 as 0deg. We rounded
mark 1 and 1a in 3rd place. After many in the fleet rounded these marks, the northerly wind died
and the southerly filled. There was a complete fleet inversion in results, we moved from 3rd to 3rd
from last instantly. The “downwind leg” became and upwind leg and the following upwind leg
became a downwind leg.”
