F18 Worlds 2019 @Costa Brava: 100 entries confirmed & Bundock is Back
Photo: Bundy & young Henri Demesmaeker. – In the Catsailing World we can discuss and argue about many things, but only one thing is given and a certain fact, everybody likes Darren Bundock.
Bundy was and still is our idol and a great guy too. We’ve praised him many times here in CSN , we also encouraged him to get back to the A-Cat once they started foiling.
Now with the new F18 faster mode and DS mainsails plus new boats it was time to tell Bundy he might want to do a comeback to the Formula 18 so I invited him to race 2019 Worlds at Costa Brava, a perfect venue to return, with Jakub we offered him a Scorpion and he replied if calendar allowed he would try to attend.
Bundy is busy now coaching for the Australian N17 & N15 teams, after great career in the Olympics Tornado and F18 plus an Americas Cup on the shelve he continues to perform at top level in the flying A-Cats. Speaking on leaving a mark in the sport, I cannot conceive a better way to do it: You win everything and let others to learn from your know how and experience as coach. Some others should follow suit.
I told him he will enjoy the new updated F18 platforms, and it seems he accepted the “challenge”, Bundock is already registered with his coachee Conor Nicholas for Costa Brava Worlds in June along other 100 participants. He will compete against the current Nr 1 F18 crew, his former Tornado pals Paschalidis & Trigonis, Gavin Colby, another Legend like Mitch Booth , the mighty Australian pack led by Burvill & Puttman and with former protege Henri Demesmaeker, who is a grown up by now. Henri had an excellent 2018 Europeans at same venue, with 3 bullets and a podium miss on a protest.
Bundy will race vs long time competitors and new stars. All is set for a great F18 Class Worlds, event to be held June 27th to July 4th at Ballena Alegre, Costa Brava, Spain.
Great news for the Class having Bundock on board once more. He is the Nr 1 F18 World Title holder with 4 : 2004 (Ahby) , 2005 (Ashby) , 2007(Ashby), 2011 (van Leeuwen). Titles list at the F18 Int Class Assoc web: f18-international.org/hall-of-fame/
