Zhik US F18 Nats 2014, Day 3: Easton-Burd lead after 10 Races

5 races today inthe breeze and 3 were for the Argies. Local favorites Easton & Burd are taking Matt McDonals’s Falcon F18 to a smooth consistence ride at Corpus Christi, 6th is their worst result so far and they have put 9pts behind Smith-Heuser in 2nd place, these two got tired today of scoring 2s and finished the day with a deserved bullet. Casey-Page only 1 pt behind them in 3rd.
Larsen-van West scoring top 5 results but no bullets yet for the 2014 World Champs, with Faustin-Aragones pushing to grab a spot in the podium with 2 bullets for the day, 3 in total for the event.
Argentine crews owning the Day again:
3 of them are part of our Class since first the Arg Nats in 2008. Juan, Cruz & Mariano are F18 Arg Nats Champs each, also travelling abroad since 08 and a key part of the Class local growth.
Nico Aragones is member of the new breed that will take Arg Multihull sailing to new heights beyond Lange’s past and current campaigns.
Let me put it this way: Nico might be one of the best trimmers in the Globe right now.
His CV includes 2 arg F18 titles, an Americas Youth AC45 Wing trimmer position, a stellar performance at 2013 F18 Worlds and a current 49er campaign.
Juan & Nico are blasting the course with bullets on a rented C2 with a so so used Spi, they sail a Phantom here.

For what do I need to put it against a 49er and a 470???? If I'm showing you for years that Youths already sail the F16? And this is Multihull Youth. Sorry but this time there is no argument whatsoever 'JK'… only Nacra will push the 15 over an F16.
You are missing the point entirely, instead you should embrace the Nacra 15 and think about the long term solution it has to offers.
Congratulate Nacra who developed the first youth multihull with curved daggerboard, elevators, selftacking jib and all the other details making it a complete race boat for the youth which is cheaper then a SL16 or Hobie 16. Including a business case to supply boats at the isaf youth worlds.. ( which is hard apparently https://catsailingnews.com/2014/08/isaf-youth-cat-goodall-design-discards.html )
Forget about the Formula 16 its way to big and the box rule itself has many faults, but moreover it is way to expensive for youth sailors! apart from a few old boats which are now around on a few clubs as you mentioned.
Nacra didn´t developed a thin this time around. Read the post and facts on Youths already sailing the F16 … maybe you will open your eyes and leave brand likeness or attachment besides.
There is simply no need for a new class when Youth are already sailing them, debunking any myth on big/power/strenght you can put over the table, it is a simple indisputable fact: Youths are currently sailing , racing and winning in F16. End of the story.
140 kg for a 15 foot catamaran is not advanced, it is bad and probably a rwsult of simple and cheap,manufacturing. If the Nacra F 16 was not for the youth, why did Nacra propose it? To me it is obvious, that there were two boats for ISAF to choose from and the one with the better margin for the builder was picked.
Unbelievable, always the same with so many opinions. If you carefully read these criteria than you find out that ISAF only chooses an affordable boat that lasts for long times. I am the father of two kids wanting to race and I am buying (obviously) the boats for them. You all seem to know so well whats good or bad but I am the one using our family money to have our kids racing these races and boats.
Normally I go for fun to this website/blog but I find it bad to not support the youth multihull that holds the best cards. Once again, reading this forum and these notes. People can only appreciate their own opinions and cannot see the big picture. We all should be happy that the Nacra 17 is a big succes, and that Nacra is willing to supply 20 to 25 boats at their costs. Their is no such thing as a golden ticket here. It is a big investment of any supplier.
ISAF seems smart to choose a one design new boat so they can start with a clean sheet and build this class properly from the ground. THINK MULTIHULL PEOPLE!!! I am placing my money on NACRA 15 and hopefully they get chosen as I want to give our kids the best and save boat possible.
I just had to say this. Normally I am not writing anything but this is the time to be one team as multi hullers around the world. Unite and let the Nacra company do what they do best. Supply boats and service the sailors.

Unbelievable that you speak targeting a company a not of the boat… while we will have at least 5-6 others providing F16s. Benefiting the fathers putting the money. But this boat is not for all kids to learn, this is for high performance level targeted Youths.
Unbelievable you are ignoring the facts. Lets see if repeating it this reality check fact can be seen finally: Youth targeting a career in Multis are already sailing F16s.
Yours is pure good will on a new boat.
ISAF is looking for a pathway to the N17, a boat on your standards "Affordable boats that last long times", are already available for the kids and those are the H16 and SL16.
And you cannot argue with that second fact, right?
Don´t you worry Oscar… Nacra will be providing the F16s too for ISAF Worlds, so you will be happy too! …
maybe because the F16 is the only boat around at the moment with daggerboards for the youth, not ideal but they can sail it indeed. The Nacra 15 will change this.
do you really think Nacra would just put another boat on the market if there R&D team havent carefully thought and analysed it through. The easiest way for them is the Nacra F16 instead of investing in a new boat.
Those facts your referring to each time about some results and Belgiums sailing on a f16 would be totally irrelevant if you would put the real design aspects and performance predictions next to each other.
– Belguim? What about US Youth Multihull Championships and else. – Already did that, and it is first reason to go for the F16.
Don´t you think that the only way to maintain a monopoly is to invent a new class? Smart move to put a "new" boat and dump prices. We are all grown ups here.
You need to lobby for what is best for Youths (those aiming to compete in ISAF Worlds not begginers) and not what is best for a company. Get your priorities together.
"Carefully and R&D" … goes to the Nacra 17, Nacra FSC20 , Nacra Infusion. Not for a heavy weight F16 hull with 30cm cut off. Cheers James, Nacra will provide either boat, so I don´t get why you Nacra fans are getting so mad.
If the prices for the Nacra15 stay below the F16 and Hobie16 then I'll jump onboard real quick. Price is the single reason I don't have a boat now (not forgetting that I'm land-locked in the midwest USA).
