MV46 Cruiser Cat draft lines study
–
Today I received a link to a new Frers cruiser catamaran which will be built in Colonia, Uruguay by an Argentine investor who needed to cross the river to have better commercial perspectives that those we had in Arg with Peronists K anti export, production restrictions policies.
Seeing the new Cruiser cat, took me to review a project I’ve been working on for a while. Just playing around with lines and dimensions to learn for a cruiser cat. But it’s not an easy feat, you need due experience and knowhow to even draw a proper Cruiser cat a la Grainger for instance. Of course going 70-80 feet stylizing is much easier a la Gunboat 68, as the long hulls you can just scale the Scorpion lines as they are almost!
But the real challenge is to do what Tony Grainger does, putting a smaller 30 to 44′ performance cruiser to unmatched looks & feel, in our view, just review the Raku 32 he draw to our request…Perfection.
And then you have the top notch functionality and seamanship of the Morrelli & Melvin designs, specially cabins, going from a Leopard 40′ to a Gunboat 66.
After 20 years we had become experts in small catamaran hulls, but addressing these Cruiser beasts its another game. We’ll try to build one some day with our mate and Naval Architect Hernán Salerno, who is working with us for the new F18 project in Arg and already did some Cruiser Cat works for Vimara, Italy.
Above some study lines I need to continue working on. Which are basically the Scorpion F18 hull scaled up
Here in Arg aside the new Frers cruising cat project, there are some local designed being built. Slowly the Cat realm is reaching the entire range, and with the rapidly increase of sediment in our Rio de la Plata coast here in Buenos Aires, it will be mandatory to sail a cruiser cat.
