F18 Worlds 2023 Day 3 Results
F18 Worlds 2023 Day 3
In one of the most competitive final stages we’ve seen, the third day for the F18 Worlds being held at Travemunde Week in Germany saw an initial delay due to +30 knots & rain. Later the org managed to get 2 racesvdone for Gold and Silver fleets.
With the Argies Volker & Polimeni leading the qualys, race #7 got all the top teams together for the first time. Pressure built early on the first race of the day. The leaders where nowhere to be seen, Burvill-Puttman, Parent-Lee, taking lead at windward mark and Jarudd-Ronsegren behind. Aussies continue to lead upto second windward where the Swedes took lead and never looked back.
Meanwhile former overall leaders Argies finished 33rd, direct hit.
Second race of the day, saw a big shift to the left where IF18CA Gral Secretary Ad Noordzij and son Maarten went and got a sole lead.
Cruz & Mariano looking to get their act together after a 26th in previous race were in danger, the 3 times consecutive podium team needed a miracle not to score another bad result and they went to the left “searching to see if God exists” as related later by Mariano, and they found him! As together with the Dutch boat they were blessed with favored winds and went ahead to score a key second place to maintain chances for antoher podium place.
Jarudd-Rosengren maintained their podium pursuers behind while the other Father & Son Dutch team, Hans & Marius van Dam, got an excellent 3rd to climb to second overall after 8 races.
Volker & Pollimeni saved the day with a 6th.
No third race was held and all went ashore.
Look at the top ten and how close racing is right now, second discard will enter with four more races, and will only count for the Final stage.
Sorry no pics available dor second day in a row… hope someone can take shots with a cellphone from the water at least.
