Hobie 16 Worlds 2022. Open Finals Day 1
5 races held today at Ballena Alegre, ‘Oldman’ (the kid is around 40 but been around that many decades since youth, thus a Catracer veteran..) Gavin Colby & Josephine Mark (photo above) won 3 on the water but the Aussies got an UFD in one. Our mate was on fire today,, a bit too much on that key start, fighting Hobie 16 super expert Yamil Saba & Gonzalo Cendra.
C’mon Colby, more bullets needed to catch current top guys. Good training for the F18 Worlds the same which hopefully will start in two weeks at Clearwater, FL.
Cam Owen & Susan Ghent, who won the Masters title past week lead after 9 Semi/Final races.

Hobie 16 Worlds 2022 A great first day for the finals
Day 1 Finals racing – Building breeze and tight quarters for the first day of the finals. Winds started out on the lighter side but quickly built to 10-15 knots. With the field cut to just the top 48 teams, the fleet was very compact and it was crowded at every mark rounding. It was one of those days where a small mistake didn’t cost you a position – it could cost you 20 positions that you couldn’t get back. The right side of the course seemed to be favored but getting there in the crowd and keeping your lane clear was easier said than done. Five races were completed.
The lead positions shuffled following todays racing with Cam OWEN/Susan Ghent (AUS) taking the lead followed by Yamil SABA FUENTES/Gonzolo CENDRA FALCON (VEN) and Darren SMITH/Claire BISGOOD (AUS).
Tomorrow will be the final day of racing.
