2022 Hobie 16 World Championships
Costa Brava Pirineu de Girona, September 15-29, 2022
Day 2 Master’s Division – The wind on day 2 of the masters division of the Hobie 16 world
championships was “no bueno”. The morning started with an offshore breeze that felt strong
enough to sail in from shore, but the race committee reported only 3 knots with 45 degree
oscillations on the water. So, AP went up and all boats were held on shore. Shortly after midday
the wind rotated to onshore and filled in some.
There was a flurry to get dressed and ready to launch as it appeared this would be a repeat of yesterday with a rapidly filling onshore wind but it wasn’t to be, the wind never settled. Racing was cancelled for the delay at 4:30. On-shore
sailors filled their time as all sailor’s do, socializing. There was some dancing and even a conga
line but sadly no sailing. Tomorrow is another day, and the forecast looks breezy.
After two days, Cam OWEN/Susan GHENT (AUS) lead followed by European champions, Stefan
GRIESMEYER/Caterina DEGLI UBERTI (ITA) and Darren SMITH/Claire BISGOOD (AUS).
Masters racing continues through September 18, when the next division starts
