An exceptional Bol d’Or Mirabaud for the Ventilos M2
Nearly 450 boats were at the start this morning of the 82nd edition of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud. Among them, twelve M2 catamarans competed not only for the ranking of the M2 Speed Tour but also for a place of honor in the general of the world’s largest closed water regatta.
No big weather surprises unfortunately this morning, as we expected the wind was absent. A start that ultimately suited the Ventilos M2, who were able to quickly pull out of the game by enjoying some airs first on the Versoix side then thermals on the French side.
After two hours of racing, Degroof Petercam (Fred Moura) and M2 Coaching Plus (Emmanuel Chomel) were in the lead in the overall standings! In front of the TF35 and Decision 35, the M2 led the way.
At the stroke of 4 p.m., Satanas, Spam and 2ndChance in particular made a good bet by shooting once again on the French coasts while the rest of the M2 fleet were stationary off Pully. We were then sailing around 15 knots for the first ones.
It was then Emineo who lived his hour of glory, since Olivier de Cocatrix and his team were spinning at 20 knots straight on the Bouveret, leading the general of this Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2021, ahead of the D35 and TF35!
“When we saw the others towards on Lutry, we made the decision to go to the French side, and it worked well for us,” explains Olivier de Cocatrix, skipper of Emineo. A happy bet for the Société Nautique Rolloise team, since they passed the Bouveret buoy at the head of the general!
A wave of success that lasted a few hours before plunging back into a lake of oil and being passed by the TF35s who finally took advantage of the air to take off.
While M2 Coaching Plus and Swiss Medical Network were once again at the head of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud off the coast of Yvoire, the TF35s finally retouched tunes which allowed them to pass in front. The victory in M2 came narrowly to Degroof Petercam (Fred Moura, Laurent Voiron, Marin Lauber and Morgan Lauber) who was a few meters ahead of Swiss Medical Network (Didier Pfister), followed by Patrimonium (Loïc Preitner).
Morgan Lauber, Degroof Petercam teammate: “We’re really happy, but it was very long and very complicated mentally and tactically. It’s true that the finish was super tight, but I think we won the race by entering the small lake where we were able to enjoy a little jorand. We stayed more in the center and it was pulling harder than we thought! It was a tough day, but we didn’t give up and we stayed focused throughout. The peculiarity this year I think it was to be in front of the D35 and the TF35 and to have to take risks and decisions whereas usually we model ourselves a little on them when we see that it is windy or that they are in the soft. ”
