F18 Arg: Nov 2020 Practice Race
The nonsense of the pandemic times, you can gather together to race, but you cannot name it an official regatta…
Excellent 3 days of racing in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, Arg. Out three World top ten crews racing along some newcomers and progressing long time local sailors. 9 Races held and the unofficial title went to our good friends Agustin Krevisky & Juan Martin Benitez sailing a Phantom F18 / 1D Sails. They finished 1pt ahead on a tight fight ahead Youth Olympic Gold medalist Dante Citadini & Sergio Mehl (Scorpion / 1D).
Third place for podium crew 2019 Worlds Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser (Scorpion / 1D). As always a super local competitive fleet. Highlight of the event was Chris Vilate & Octavio Dorbessan performance (Scorpion / 1D) finishing 4th but quite close for a podium position.
Next event will be at Mar del Plata Sailing Week, our best racing course located on Atlantic coast 400kms from BA.
The Arg fleet is eager to race fully again and we hope our top guys an attend 2021 Worlds in Italy, the guys are on a mission and I see a potential target to 1,2,3 Podium spots. Will be hard though with the Greeks & top Aussie crews also contending.
Agustín & Tigre won on a 2013 Sail Innovation Phantom F18 (built by Jakub). The Phantom F18 was an Alex Udin project designed by guru Martin Fischer, which targeted improving his former design, the Hobie Wildcat (World Champ with SI Team Backes-Jarlegan in 2010).
Not much boats sold World wide but its still a top notch winning platform. Here we have 10, almost half of the entire Phantom F18 fleet.
My 2 cents contribution to their winning boat was a 3D ABS printed deck dagger case insert I gave to Agustin as its common failing part but quite simple to replace.
