F18 Arg 20/21 Season starts
Today with the re launch of the local Scorpion Flag Ship the 20/21 F18 season has officially started. We’ve been sailing for some months now, but double handed were allowed later. Official events are cancelled for the rest of 2020 but training regattas will resume next weeks.
Above Multiple F18 Arg Champ Sergio Mehl (8th Worlds 2019) went back to the water with quintessential Argie Cat, our Scorpion built by Jakub stamped with proper Arg colors.
The Arg F18 power house in full bore, as today the helm for this Scorpion was Dante Cittadini, Nacra 15 Youth Olympics Gold Medal along Teresa Romairone.
14knots from the East today, yesterday we had another perfect one (best November I can recall), I was out on the A-Cat and saw the Youth Medalists blasting their Nacra 17.
Today I couldn’t sail on pending A-Cats sales, plus arranging some Windsurfing equipment for some friends.
Along bikes, Windsurf sales are booming here in Arg, the entire range from rookies to advance who are all migrating to Windfoil. Logic results of 7 months of quarantine & lockout. We have a Windsurf related project in the background, hopefully will be ready in some weeks.
Argie Pride
What also boomed past weekend was Rugby Argie Team, Pumas beating the All Blacks for first time ever was a joy to watch. As a kid I saw Kirwan playing in Velez, not the 21-21 tie though, and of course the mighty Hugo Porta many times. This weekend win was a hard blast for the Kiwis with the Arg squad playing together for the first time in +400days.
The words of Captain Pablo Matera represent to perfection the good side of the Argentine being, first and above all we love our country – in spite of ourselves as a whole- , 2nd we respect our colors and 3rd we have an inner passion for sports not many in the World can match. Being football, Rugby, Tennis, Catsailing.. you name it.
We are a mess, but we are proud either way of being Argies, as Pablo Matera rightly stated while being demanded leadership by the referee after a Kiwi slapped one of his guys: “...I demand respect, I’m playing for my country…” while pointing his own Puma jersey matching the colors of Mehl’s Scorpion above.
After the match Matera dedicated the win to the Argentines as everything for us (in every aspect) is usually harder, extra effort always involved and surely applies to local sailors traveling abroad every year.
Argentine Catsailors sailors have earned their respect too past seasons, with Lange-Carranza and Cittadini-Romairone respective current Gold Olympic medals and specially for us, the 2019 performance of the amateur Arg fleet in Costa Brava F18 Worlds (3rd, 6th & 8th).
Local F18 fleet goal will be Worlds 2021 in Italy, preparations & training have already started.
Get ready for more Arg colors filling the podiums in 2021.
