New Goodall Design F18 named “Akurra”

The new F18 from Goodall to replace the C2 (2011 World Champ design with Bundy & Jeroen van Leeuwen) has been named as “Akurra” , see Goodall comments below.

On the design itself is following the trend of the Scorpion, with a lower inverted bow, (at least what the render view shows) but compensated with good overall volume, daggercase in front of shrouds and refined daggers and rudders, quite similar to the planshapes Jakub did.
We identify too more volume on the central deck elevated area (between beams), We like the shape, similar to their latest Viper also.
Still we are missing bottom lines, transom shape, and side view to see how different from the C2 those lines are.

Also the bow side edges are resembling Jakub’s Exploder A13/A14/A15 A-Cat hulls. Goodall already did some modifications to the C2 hull back in 2018, as Nacra did with the MK3, but the Scorpion performance and its 3 consecutive World Titles forced both leading F18 builders to launch a totally new design.

Still many key factors above has roots on Martin Fischer’s Wildcat innovation, specially the daggercase position and the high aspect ratio blades together with Pete Melvin’s Infusion overall volume concept, both details described many times as aspects we look up to as base for our Scorpion design.

Now the “Akurra” along the Nacra Evo are following that specific merge we identified as the way to go. R&D is done in cycles, so it’s good to see each new project gets input from previous ones.

The new Goodall Design “Akurra” looks pretty good, and we have no doubt it will perform as the recently launched “Evo” is doing. Along Goodall Design known quality the F18 will have another weapon of choice.

The Akurra will debut on a Worlds Championship in 2021, we hope full attendance to be norm, an event which promise to be one to remember as we will all be eager to sail and race again a major event after these too many months of exaggerated long term, and useless in the very end, confinement.

Comments Below from Goodall Design on the “Akurra” name:

“We’re proud to announce the name of our new flagship: the Goodall Design Akurra !
*
Over the last 30 years our most successful designs have carried snake names, and we feel this F18 deserves the same honor.
*
The Indigenous Australians (aboriginals) tell a story of a giant water snake with a beard mane and sharp fangs, whose movements shaped the land. The name of this great snake is Akurra.
*
Just like the Capricorn (2004-2009) and C2 (2010-2020) the Goodall Design Akurra Will be our hero to shape the catamaran landscape for years to come.
*
Congratulations to James Derck for your inspiration on the new name!
