43 Sailors did 4 races each day with 3 on the last. Talked to some friends that were there today and all felt exhausted but extremely happy with the event and the formation of this new Class in Argentina. Sailors come from Formula or Raceboard background, now all together under the same Windfoil flag. The local Formula Class never had 40 Arg sailors racing in one event, thus a great sign of what Windfoiling is doing for the sport.
The Saubidet Birkner bros dominated on the course, with a close definition with Bautista establishing a 2pt gap only with Francisco.
Third place for another youth promise, Marcos Quiroga, who trains in San Isidro with the Saubidets but lacks the international experience. Nevertheless Marcos is progressing big steps.
Fouth overall for veteran Julito Saubidet, long time windsurfer who once did Olypic Mistral campaign along with local Legend Camu Espínola. Julito also sails F18 & A-Class. He was third overall entering final day but the youths long haul physical help defined the podium.
Still a massive achievement for him, who along his brothers Raul are key players in the creation of this new Class.
The Mendoza locals provided a perfect venue and organization. Many drove from Buenos Aires , or Madryn or even Uruguay to attend. Potrerillos will become an annual stop in the Windfoil Arg circuit along Estancia Adela where the Arg Nats took place back in Nov 2019, another one of a kind venue provided by another Saubidet bro, Tobal.
In the Silver fleet Matias Zavala, 15yrs old, confirmed his future star status finishing 1st overall.
Windfoil is a complete success here in Argentina, and we expect only growth for coming years.
The organizers & sailors had plenty of luck, Mendoza has just closed his inner borders with other provinces and with Chile due to Corona virus.
