F18 Italian Nats 2019: Title for Radman & Cioni

Images , video & report sent by Alessandro Pelliccia / www.formula18.it , The Nr 1 Press Officer out there for any Class. Watch video above, smooth footage and perfect F18 sailing conditions – The Italian F18 is keeping momentum and have made the transition to DS without much issues. Always good participation and top quality teams. Happy to see Marco Radman, a long time web follower , clinching the title with Luca Cioni sailing the mighty Hobie Wildcat & 1D sails.

The Wildcat, coming from the original Capricorn, (both conceived by Martin Fischer) is the actual father of latest F18 design and set the basis for current platforms, also the best F18 I’ve sailed/raced. No other F18 from that decade has reached 2019 without any modifications. The Wildcat is the only platform which remains unscathed since its original launch and it will continue to perform coming years.

The DS mainsail setup also might help that pitching tendency for better. Indeed remains a performer but is clear the rest of the F18s are more forgiving in the breeze, thus you need some hours to tame the “Wildcat” (precisely…) and Marco Radman & Luca Cioni have shown their skills over a talented fleet winning over Mazzuchi & Ligsinoli (C2/Oxo Sails) and Vettori & Stella, sailing our own Scorpion built by Exploder (which renders its root and core to Fischer’s Wildcat) and Oxo Sails. Later will try to gather top ten equipment list.

Checking results so nice to see one of the best guys I’ve known in the business, 6th overall for Felix Egner crewing for Sebastian Moser (Scorpion/Landenberger) . Felix now runs the Egner / Landenberger and continues to deliver first class sails. in the F18 he was also close to win the F18 Worlds with Landy back in 2008.

Start planning ahead as the 2020 Worlds will be held in Italy. Read below the complete racing report by Alessandro Pellicia. Italian Assoc web formula18.it

The 2019 National Championship for the Formula 18 Catamaran Class Italy has just ended at the Centro Vela Sunset Calambrone on 20-22 September. Optimal conditions for the three days of regattas, the initial schedule was completed by the Race Committee.

Unstable and disrupted weather which, however, has not discouraged the organization on land and on the water, with the Committee always ready for changes and for the Club that has fielded the best for the success of the event.

Friday racing started after the registrations and the measurements controls, conditions 15 knots offshore. A sudden rotation of the wind of over 40 ° true NNO the first regatta was canceled while heading to windward mark to reposition the course.

Thirty minutes later and the first race is repeated with a Mistral wind about 12 knots. 35 minutes for two laps, and so on with the second race.

Nervous fleet with forced two cancelled starts. Black Flag and off to the second test of three laps. New rotation of the wind now to the NE, unstable. The third test cannot be completed.

Saturday we had “sailing paradise”, 15/18 knots on the entire regatta course from the NE and no waves. Four races were carried out at the end and a dinner was offered by the Organization to all competitors.

Sunday was last day, and started with weather alert, all over central-northern Italy, but in Calambrone ample clear skies convinced the Committee to try to complete the program. Good call in the end with three more races of the day, always with NE wind between 12 and 15 knots.

An exciting championship, with constant changes in the standings and the title awarded in the last race, to a the photo finish.

National champions for 2019 are ITA23 Marco Radman-Cioni, one point ahead Mazzucchi-Lisignoli and third for Carrier-Star.

This regatta closes a season that has brought the competitors around Italy always with the climate that distinguishes this Class: Friendship, sport, adrenaline and fun and the doors open on a 2020 that will bring the World Championship to Formia-Gaeta with more than 150 boats. Goods wind from Formula 18 Catamarans Italy.
