F18 Worlds 2019 @Costa Brava: Day 3
All images by Marc Gonzalez Alomá sent by Olvier Bovyn / IF18CA. Video, well that flashy style MTV stuff is a waste of reel. On pics Later complete galery at CSN fb. – 3 races held today for Gold & Silver for the third day of the 2019 F18 Worlds, another excellent day of racing with 12 to 15knots. The leaders fight was as expected with Paschalidis-Trigonis and Bundock-Conor taking a bullet each.
In the first race both were a bit behind, Greeks save a 5th but the Aussies got a 12th giving room to current leaders to maintain an 8pts gap. Finals discard will be in place only when 6F races are complete.
Bundy reports in his fb: “1st day of Gold fleet was tough. 1st Race we got caught on the wrong side and fought back for a 11th. 2nd race was a speed race with the Greeks changing places for us to finally win. Race 3 there were more friends fighting for the lead, the best race which was won by the Greeks and we scraped in for 2nd. So 11,1,2 happy for the day “
The ‘Argie’ Attack
The highlight of the day was the Argentine crews. Check results for races 7 & 8, our Argie mates were filling the top five with consistent performance through the day. Years of hard training and no equipment issues this (like say Euros 2018) have put them at the very top of the F18 Racing World Wide. So proud of these guys, much left that’s it , loud statement made for those who had any doubt if an Arg sailor could grab the World Title back at home in 2016.
Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser currently in third place overall, Pablo Volker & Sergio Mehl 4th and Agustín Krevisky & Juan Martín Benitez in 6th tied in points with Burvill & Puttman (5th overall) . If you had any doubt of the level of the Arg fleet I’ve been preaching for years it was good enough, now you know. High pride seeing our flag up there in the results, an achievement these crews made only after long hours of training and racing back home, 12 months a year since 2008 when we start racing in BA and of course investing in travelling abroad.
2 Days left for this Worlds, 6 races pending, but for me is job done for these guys, anything else is a plus.
Tight scores in the lower top ten, with many crews capable of more, no contender in the top 5 can rest at ease with this fleet.
Tomorrow 3 more races scheduled, last day of racing will be Thursday.
Jury Hearings Update: Mazzuchi & Lisignoli were DSQ on Rule 28.1 on the first race they won today. Arg crews are now 3rd, 4th & 5th. Notice board here
