Texel Correted Time/Rating
In corrected time, another win for an F18 platform at the Texel. This time for Hans & Marius Van Dam sailing a Goodall Design C2 / Goodall DS. The Van Dams have been performing at maximum level last seasons, pretty close to podium at Sarasota 2019 Worlds and they conitnue to show their form towards coming F18 Worlds to be held next week at Costa Brava. We hope to see father & son fighting for the 2019 title.
Texel Elapsed Time
For us an M20 Vampire has won the Texel elapsed time this year , gabbing the blue ribbon on a M32 might be a good run but nothing we can compare against. Kyle Stoneham & Josh O’Brien M20 Vampire finished seconds ahead of a standard Nacra F20 (curved foils, small winglets but not the full FCS foiling version). The M20 Vampire camp reports groundings for both M20s and that they were leading to regain beachcat lead at the finish line as seen in sequence above taken by Tony Mels.
This might be the first major win for the M20 Vampire, we’ve been following the project since day 1 and the platforms always seemed to struggle vs the FPs or Nacra F20s in the long distances races like Carnac or past Texels too.
The Vampire M20 has always been a fast platform but it was hard for them to put that in to actual regatta wins. The project continued its development and now also features a Decksweeper mainsail by Grant Piggot Sails. Well deserved reward for the British team behind this project, like William Sunnucks and builder Graham Eales. The Vampire is one of the pioneers to use T foils & flaps for foiling beachcats, also they have set a path for latest devels as the new TF35 foiler which will replace the floating D35 features a similar T Foil / Flaps 3Pt Foiling System.
Check our interview & tech papers on the M20 Vampire here. We’ll need to make an update as that one is from 2015. More comments of the Texel and pics of the grounded foils at M20 Vampire project fb
Considering the M20 Vampire development still a really good race for the Nacra F20 crew sailing against them and a couple of Nacra F20 FCS, edit: checking closely corrected time results they have a penalty assigned.
The first Nacra F20 FCS was Albert Steenman finishing around 1 minute behind the M20 Vampire. Thijs Visser sailed a DNA F1x A-Cat to a 16th place in elapsed time. Check below for the elapsed time results.
Mischa’s foiling M20 also participated but we don’t see it at the final results, we’ll seek for more info on what happened to them.

Was Gunnar on infusion MKIII? It seems we have not heard much on this new boat does it perform vs mkii a snow latest c2 epoxy platforms? What is status on scorpion convertible?
Hi David. We don’t know which version Gunnar sailed. But the MK3 was already used at Sarasota by some crews like Melvin & van West. Scorpion convertible is still on hold on Jakub’s other works, production is already epoxy though.
I heard Sarasota conditions were not a good test due to wind conditions. I suppose we wait for worlds to see how new f18 developments impact the fleet or more likely top sailors getting top results regardless of platform choice (well balanced). What is your view how current platforms rank in performance?
