Nacra 17 WC Series Genoa 2019: Martinez & Maslivets 1st
All images Sailing Energy / World Sailing Media. – Iker Martinez & Olga Maslivets obatained the first place at Genoa World Cup Series 2019 after finishing second in the Medal Race. This win it’s a nice reward for the Spanish crew, showing their level beyond any past rules controversy. That’s the way to come back from any possible error / equipment overlook made in the past.
Second place overall for Saxton & Boniface, the British sailors controlled the week but couldn’t close a first overall , scoring a 6th in the Medal Race left them 1pt behind the winners.
The Medal Race was quite entertaining, light winds made for a 1 trap / both in upwind legs but the breeze was good enough for some speeding flights downwind. The Nacra 17s looked excellent in foiling mode.
Jones & Saunders led to 2nd windward mark followed by Majdalani-Bosco and Martinez-Maslivets, Lange-Carranza were 4th and seemingly out of the podium as they were a bit behind the leaders. With not many options Lange went to the right side of the course while the leaders were covering each other. Nothing to lose for Lange-Carranza they went to the layline and caught off guard the leading crews winning the medal race coming from nowhere and securing the third place overall.
But it was the the other Argentine crew who were displaying great performance udner pressure, Majdalani & Bosco led for moments and could have won a podium place themselves. Happy for them after a poor performance past event , returning to the top places in great fashion. Experience and hours on the Course is what will make them more consistence, the talent and drive is there as we all knew since day one.
The Italians top crews had a tough event , Tita & Banti finished 8th overall and Bissaro-Frascari 17th experiencing lack of speed in the light conditions the fleet had a Genoa.
But the Italian squad has more crews performing, this time were Bressani-Zorzi, 4th overall and had chances of podium too during the final race.
Parent & Atwood close the even as the top US crew at Genoa , bright future no doubt for them.
