A-Class Australian Nats 2017: Day 3

I contacted Stephen Brayshaw, currently 4th overall , to know more about the event, upwind foiling  and how his modified A15 is working for him:  SB: “The A15 is going well. I’m really quick downhill, mainly because I get it to go so deep.

A few guys are foiling uphill but Stevie and Bundy are the ones that are getting it to work. I can also foil uphill but haven’t tried to this regatta as if you can’t get to work properly you lose so much so it’s not worth it.

It has to be a pretty consistent breeze of over 13 knots for it to work but when it does and everything is working you gains are enormous.

Looking lighter for the rest of the next 3 days with breeze from the East which is a strange direction at McCrae as it will be coming over the mountain and will make it very gusty and shifty, even more than normal. There will be be loses and gains in the next few days.

On my A15 I have Z10 foils as well and the new rudders. I have also cut my centre board cases out and moved them forward to where the new AD3 foils are 400mm back from the front beam. So that has moved them 170mm forward from where they were.” —
