Tuesday didn´t looked good in the morning, full rain & few lightnings and forecast for +25 knots, but Buenos Aires gave us another great day of racing. Shifty conditions indeed but another mix of 1 trap to fully powered double trap offshore westerly.
Pablo Volker & Juan Martin Benitez (Phantom F18 lead after 6 scoring 1,5, for the day. Esteban Blando & Nico Quagliotti (Phantom F18) with another good day to climb upto second overall and previous day leaders, 3rd for Cruz Gonzalez Smith & Mariano Heuser (Infusion MKII) still much in the game. Three more days of racing left.
Us: We could complete 3 races at least, but halyards are getting our nerves. R1 jib got unlocked before start, some mins late to recover upto 20th. R2 awful. R3 great speed 1 to 1 upwind with our MKI 2009 vs Volker & Benitez Phantom, in fact I told them they need to ‘train more’ as is not possible we can match their vmg…! On those windy powered conds.
Good 3rd race race until the last upwind mark, when the spi halyard got stuck again, for a final 19th.
Either way more than a joy to be racing and finishing! We went back tired but with a smile after a long day.
On the rest sadly Matias Buhler & Sergio Mehl got hit at the first race upwind mark, and they were out for the day. Really a bummer after all the training and last minute work done with the Exploder boards fit, their first day perf and mainly their potential title hunt.
