Team Tilt wins 2015 D35 Trophy after thrilling final showdown on Lake Geneva :
“Team Tilt’s D35 season victory went to the wire on Saturday with the final result coming down to the final leg of the final race of the season. Team Tilt managed to fend off Alinghi and third-placed Mobimo to win the regatta and the season trophy, with Alinghi finishing second and Ladycat, powered by Spindrift on the third step of the podium.
The 2015 D35 Trophy caps a dominant season on Lake Geneva for helmsman Sebastien Schneiter and the Team Tilt squad.
Geneva, Switzerland – 27 September 2015 – Helmsman Sebastien Schneiter and the Team Tilt squad put in a cool-headed performance on Lake Geneva on Saturday at the closing D35 Grand Prix of the season
winning the 2015 D35 Trophy on the final leg of the final race of the two-day event raced out of the Société Nautique de Genève.
“It was tense right up until the finish,” said 20-year-old helmsman Sebastien Schneiter. “I was glad when it was over! We sailed well on Saturday despite putting ourselves in some tricky situations due to stress. Alinghi really made it hard for us, they are the team to beat and we have finally managed it – with a good team and hard work, anything is possible!”
Tactician Tanguy Cariou was delighted with the result. “We kept the suspense going until the very end of the 12 races. We finally managed to win it after a few near misses earlier on due to pressure. “Our season objective was to finish on the podium and we have achieved this result through hard work and a good team. Arnaud Psarofaghis and Bryan Mettraux joined us again this summer and brought a lot to the team, as did Lucien Cujean and Jonas Schagen who both know the boat and the squad inside out. And finally, of course, we could not have done this without the unwavering support of our team manager, Alex Schneiter!”
The red multihull sponsored by Julius Baer, Jiva Hill and Cardis | Southeby won five out of the eight Grand Prix that make up the 2015 D35 Trophy, plus the famous Bol d’Or Mirabaud in June. The team managed to fight off elite teams such as Alinghi (second) and Ladycat by Spindrift Racing (third) for the top step of the podium.
With the Lake season now finished, Team Tilt returns its focus to its Olympic campaign. Next on the campaign trail for 49er duo Sebastien Schneiter and Lucien Cujean are the Worlds in Argentina from 17-22 November. After that the team travels to Bermuda for the final event of the Flying Phantom Series at the end of November. In 2016, Team Tilt will begin its Youth America’s Cup training on board the GC32s and will return to Lake Geneva for a fourth season and to defend its D35 Trophy title.
