Olympic titans battle at Bolster Teamrace Knockout 2014

“This year, already the 4th edition of the Bolster Teamrace Knockout will take place. On Saturday May 17th, the biggest catamaran beach of Europe, Marina Muiderzand, again will be the battleground for this contest. New this year is the type of catamaran that will be used: the Olympic Nacra 17. The organization managed to get the very best of this Olympic class to Holland to show their match racing skills

The sailors will show a true game of chess and will make it a spectacular event for the spectators. The catamarans will do a flyby when they pass the finish line in front of the crowd. Fun for young and old!

The list of Olympics candidates is long, so that each team will at least have one Olympic sailor.

The best Nacra 17 sailors, who are currently sailing their Olympic campaign in Hyères, will be present. For example Darren Bundock (two-time Olympic medallist and winner of America’s Cup 2013), Jeroen van Leeuwen (two-time World Champion ), Thijs Visser (youngest World Champion ever), Jason Waterhouse (Youth America’s Cup), Billy Besson (current World Champion Nacra 17), Tom Phipps and Zennor Pascoe will be competing. In very colourful outfits, a team consisting of two boats will match race against two other boats. It’s all about focus, teamwork and courage, a perfect match with the core business of title sponsor Bolster.

The finalists will be known after two ‘best of three’ races. The official umpires from DMTRA will be on top of the action and make sure everything is played by the rules.
Live experience
Spectators are able to follow the race from the shore through large tv screens and a live feed from the water. Thanks to on-board camera’s, drones and live commentary by Marcelien de Koning en Frans Sluyters, you’ll be on top of the action and experience the races in a unique way. Directly after the event a compilation of the races will be available on YouTube.

Limbo dancing – How low can you go ?
Next to the Olympic match racing, limbo dancing will also be a very popular part of the Bolster Teamrace Knockout. With the catamarans, participants must go as steep as possible, but also have to try to keep their mast out of the water. A clever piece of boat handling, especially when they feel the pressure of the jury: the spectators on the shore. Their applause and given rates will decide who is the best limbo dancer. The winner will receive a €250 check, which can be donated to a charity by choice.

New: Teamrace Knockout OPEN
The Bolster Teamrace Knockout also gives the opportunity to other catamaran sailors to show their skills. In the OPEN class, a total of 16 catamarans will compete against each other in 8 teams. This open class will be sailed in Formula 18 catamarans. There are still some slots available for this race, so do not hesitate and sign in at the Bolster Teamrace Knockout website!

Just want to see tacks and jibes.

Gurvan & Ben are throwing some wild tacks with reverse heel. But you wont see many until they Course/Match Race.
Although they had plenty of tacks/gybes in the Long Distance they won at Carnac.
