The race committee set the course at 2GO at 0.7 nautical miles to take advantage of the 15-20 knot winds of 020º for a 10:00 start.

Former Hobie 16 World Champion, Blain Dodds and daughter Roxanne Dodds were 8th at the first weather mark. At the second weather mark they moved into third before taking the lead at the final weather mark to carry home the victory. They were followed closely by West Australians Darren
Smith and Kerstin Houk with the current class leaders Claudio Teixeira and Bruno Reis from Brazil coming in third.

Conditions continued to deliver for the fifth race and the course was again set to 2GO at 0.8 Nautical Miles for a great start to the race.

Racers headed to the weather mark in a freshening breeze of 18-21knots at 030º which South Africans William & Lucinda Edwards took full advantage of, proceeding on starboard and tacking on the port lay line perfectly, taking the lead at the first mark and then sailing a perfect race all the way to victory.

>From NSW, Australian Rod and Kerry Waterhouse took second place followed closely by fellow NSW Australians and Anthony Duchatel and Evelyn Curtis in third.

As the boats were exchanged on the beach winds freshened to 25-30 knots closing out racing for the day with the race committee deciding to cancel racing due to winds being over the safety limit.

Racing will resume in the morning with promising conditions of a SSE expected at around 15-20 knots for the final qualifying round of the Hobie Masters after which the fleet will be reduced from 88 to the top 56 teams for the Hobie Masters Finals and continue until the champion is crowned.

Classes continue throughout the next two weeks with Hobie Grandmasters, Hobie Womens and Hobie Youth starting on Wednesday followed by the qualifying rounds of the Hobie Open starting on Saturday.”
