Yvan Bourgnon & Defi SMA: Round the World on a 20′ Cat

This is the beauty of Cats, the wide range of activities you can have, imagine trying this on a skiff. For the new readers I built some cruising cats for Patagonia coastal sailing,  but this one has custom hulls plus huge higher wings, like Pandianis. Yvan & Vinvent Beauvarlet Defi SMA wrapup by By Greg Toubel / Forward Sailing.- “Yvan Bourgnon built a new 20 feet catamaran equipped with 2 custom wings for a long trip all around the world via Panama and Suez.

His objective is to become the first sailor to sail around the world on a “non livable” boat, without real protection – except the wings to be a bit higher from the sea – and almost no electric equipments onboard !
The goal is to travel “a la old school” – only sextant and stars to know where he is and where he is going !

He left the 5th of October from Les Sables d’Olonne in France (such as Vendee Globe) and expects to be back there 10 to 11 months later, at the end of summer 2014.

After the departure, La Coruna and Agadir, he is now in stand by in Canaria Islands before crossing Atlantic and reach Guadeloupe. The first big (hudge) part of the trip…

Forward Sailing has been supporting Yvan for many years and is part of this project : we have made all the sails for his adventure : reinforced fathead mainsail with 2 reefs, a jib, 2 spinnakers and a gennaker, + many equipments and cloths for him and the sponsors (polos, shirts, etc…).”
