Olympics: Polls Results
If you’ve been following the poll to the right you might have noticed some good runs exchanges for the first place. Between Hobie and Nacra. Maybe helped by some class mails circulating linking to it? (I’ve got copies) I’m going to make a Romney-Santorum now… and get some extra hits!
Hobie fans think the H16 is the best choice for the Olympics. The surprise for sure the Nacra 17, with only one built, so the concept is attractive for many beyond they don´t sail one.
Already all said on the H16 at the games, I will add only that seeing Booth, Hagara, Lange, Echevarri, Bundock, Ashby, Paz and the like for the gold medal on one is not what you can call the pinnacle of the sport as it once was with the T, now the AC has that spot.
There is a reason this legend is/was the ISAF Youth Official boat.
Guess in which boat those kids above are performing right now after a good school on the H16 and SL16?
The Bellet bros are one of France best youth promises to replace Backes&Jarlegan in the future.
The result it is a reflection of the popularity of the H16, nothing new, and the appeal of something different.
But in my view Hobie lost the chance to win the selection straight forward with the Wildcat (Best performer on mid range of the F18 fleet as I remarked many times) plus some upgrades like a carbon mast. But some on the class pushed builders for them to not present any F18.
Although both missed a chance of a lifetime to introduce the class, and the Wildcat, to Brazil , already Hobie Land with their huge H16 fleets.
Said this many times, next frontier for performance catsailing is Brazil (For F16, F18, A-Class and next generation of High Techs)
Wildcat would have been our chance to enter that market. Maybe with the Tiger? A full tuned version (with Carbon mast, Wildcat foils) could do the job too.
I sent a mail to David Brooks, Hobie Class president, some weeks ago for their view and reasons on presenting the Hobie 16 and the Tiger as an Olympic boat. He replied but not full answers yet.
Edit: Just got Hobieclass mailing by David and they describe the whole thing. You can read HobieClass view Here
I Like how Nacra (they asked too) and Hobie tell their members “it is important” for one of their babies to be selected. Of course it is important, for AHPC, NACRA, HOBIE, ITA as they are going to sell more boats if selected! The high Paradox with the “global reach & Universality” is that in South America for ie, right now, the Panams Games will have more Multihull participants if an F18 is selected instead of the current H16(due to Chile and Uruguay new F18 fleets)As the F18 is booming down here and the H16 is only alive in Brazil.
Now the real thing at Santander, hope we can have the ACup and the Olympics for looking forward in the future.

One problem with that blogger-vote is that all you had to do is clear your cache and history and vote again. If you did that and refreshed the page fast enough before the blogger system could verify the ip addy then you could vote again as many times as you'd like.
