Formula 16: New Nacra Design
The Formula 16 class is having a huge support on their project by having builders like AHPC with the Viper and now Nacra with this new launch. Hope the class can stop past discussions and enjoy their success! I like how MM and Nacra grabs the Infusion and scaled up or down to get a new product with a working base, also gives an identity to the brand. They didn´t went with F20c curved (need to check if the class allows) but canted boards.

Nacra Press release – For some time rumors have been going around that NACRA would be launching a new 16 footer. Well, here she is: The “NACRA F16 ”
F16 Class developments
NACRA Sailing international has been following the development of the F16 class meticulously. Mainly consisting of homemade boats at first, but now maturing as the F16 class received the ISAF status “recognized class” at the end of 2010. After receiving this news, NACRA Sailing International decided it was time to get involved and started developments. In NACRA’s opinion it will also lift the F16 class to the next level when “well established manufacturers ” like NACRA are entering this class towards the future.

Design team
The NACRA F16 is designed & engineered by the world famous multihull construction company Morrelli & Melvin based in Huntington Beach California USA. Peter Vink overseeing this F16 project as counterpart on behalf of NACRA Sailing International explains on the NACRA F16.
” In a young class, as the F16 class is, we had to come up with a design that needs to be the benchmark for a long time. A 16 footer that can be used by recreational sailors and/or racing teams, pushing the limits of what is possible. Just get onboard and start exploring, with the launch of this F16, NACRA is not one step ahead but miles ” —

Daggerboards can be canted up to 6 degrees as specified in the class rules. Same for curved daggers, surface can only deviate up to 6 degrees from vertical.
Even if Gunnar is the source Peter choose to put it on his blog. Class can apparently manage well on their own.
As always some bitter comments of some F16 class guys that I removed for being anonymous and bashing, basically saying "arrogant newsletter" No, if they are going to sell their prodcut saying it sails like a Laser….
Some fans on the F16 don´t like Bundy's and ahpc work, they don´t like Nacra either. Why don´t you close the doors for big companies and stop complaining?
It is your blog and your decision. When you voice opinions you must expect feedback.
(I was the one who answered the class rules question on canted daggerboards).
In fact the class is very much in line regarding class rules. As far as I know the class also welcomes both AHPC and NACRA developments in the class. If Hobie choose to build a boat measuring in as an F16, that is perfect. Bundy is a great guy and I have never every heard anybody comment negatively on him or any company.
What is really bad are all the people on the internet with no connection or stake in the class who relentlessly hammers the class with opinions on what the class members need to think and accept.
I can suggest where you should go with your blog Martin, but I think it unreasonable that I should get fired up becouse you decide to not implement my suggestions.
???? This is a just an official press release from Nacra. I just commented "look canted but not curved, I will check if class allows curved" as if they are working on the A class on on the F20C why not use them. "UUhh blasphem (????????)…."
The bitter comments were removed, yours remains.
On Bundy just check 1st comment on his interview here:https://catsailingnews.blogspot.com/2011/05/darren-bundock-interview.html
Martin in F18 is not allowed canted or curved dagger? Realy. Thnaks
Gonzalo Rosario H16
Not allowed on the F18
Hey Martin, Mr Anonymous is back..
It looked like your opinion when this was the intro: "The Formula 16 class is having a huge support on their project by having builders like AHPC with the Viper and now Nacra with this new launch. Hope the class can stop past discussions and enjoy their success! "
The past discussions you refer to here are still ongoing amongst the busybodies I mentioned. They do real damage to the class. If the above quote came from NACRA and not you I apologize to you.
Having AHPC and NACRA build F16 compliants boats sure adds to the numbers of the class, which is a good thing!
The commentes in the interview with Bundy is not representative for the F16 class members I know.
Please do give the F16 class the benefit of doubt in not believing that the majority are uncouth and politically simple. Those comments might even not be made by class members as they are anonymous, and I rather hope that is the case.
I have asked the class president to contact you to give you some background and info on the class directly from the source.
PS: I do not hold and have never held any office in the F16 class. I have invested south of 600 hours in the class though which tends to make things personal.
Why was my last post removed?
Again, it is your blog, but really?
I've been asked in the past from those accused by anonymous like you to not publish bashing comments if not exposing who you are.
It is a fair rule.
And since I started this blog you can´t find any single attack to any project or person or brand in this blog, all the contrary.
The F16 has a privileged spot here too as the F18 , A-Class and Tornado.
I removed your comments saying that Gunnar and Peter were arrogant on the press release text… nothing serious , but just put your name behind it.
Not fair for those exposed.
Cheers,
Martin
There you have your comment (above), it was on the spam folder.
Is clear that as always that all versales text is mine and the rest what I receive, always quite clear here.
I have read the 200.000 posts on the F16 in cs, it started quite good on technical info but always ended in nonsense. Like this thread,,,, just put your name, what you are afraid of?
Martin
I never mentioned arrogance or names. Different anonymous. If you check the IP adresses that should be possible to see. I understand the confusion though.
As for why I dont write my name, that is irrelevant.
Is not irrelevant if bashing.
and you can´t check ips in blogger.
Its ok, I just leave anon comments cause its easy to people to contribute with results, remarks, and good feedback on each post.
As always high controversy and major bs long nonsense discussions like this is not found here.
The main one was the Olympic discussion, the rest all good.
I will make an interview with the F16 Chairman on his request to have an official statement.
Martin
Martin,
Keep up the good work with the blog and don't let the A-holes ruin it. This nonsense with the name calling is everywhere, even at the local club level. I myself contributed hundreds of hours and ran dozens of events only to have some crap thrown at me as well from the local sailing group..I will never again run a regatta because of the stupid petty bs that goes on in these sailing groups. Everyone puts on this charade that we are all pals and get along great and then they stick the knife in you when you turn around.
This is GREAT news! Glad Nacra is throwing in with the F16 field.
Is there any weight info floating around?
