A-Class Worlds 2011: August 13-20 at Arhus, Denmark

2011 Worlds will be raced this year at Kaløvig Sailing Centre, Arhus, Denmark .
I know Fischer will there racing his own design, the Exploder Mayfly and Landy will be riding a Scheurer.
Don´t have any news on the WingFox Nano.
Interesting to see the US task force with Hall (and his Baracuda), Strubble, Guck, Moon against the Euro and Aussie fleets.
Why I don´t get is why the A-Class events always program only 2 races per day…

  1. I had the luck to qualify myself for the Euro 2009 held in Rohrspitz/Austria. I initialy had the same critic : why schedule only 2 races each day ? With a more aggressive program, we could be done in 5 days instead of 7…

The reasons are multiple : the beach is wide there and we could go out 4-6 boats at the same time. But even with these excellent watering conditions, it often took more than 1 hour to get all boats to the starting line. And then we sometimes had to wait for wind…

Being a very competitive class with amazing sailors like Ashby, Landy, Mitch Booth and all sorts of other extremely talented people, the A-class has the tendency to produce general recalls, which take forever to reorganize the fleet and redo a start while waiting for 100 cats to turn back, avoid collisions and line-up for the next start.

I'm not sure about it, but maybe our class rules specify a max of 2 races a day for these events.

Anyway, at the end of the week, we were happy to be able to complete the schedule on time and not race on the 2nd reserve day. I have the feeling that the organizers at Rohrspitz have done an excellent job, and I was happy with my experience there.

I so wish I was going.

I've always understood that traditional worlds classes limit the number of races per day so that any mechanical failures do not impact too many races during the regatta.

2 races a day and 2 discards in the case that all 9 races are sailed. That means damage that would cost you a hole day of sailing won't destroy your chances of making a good result.
    But neither would 3 races a day, 15 races and 3 discards…

Ashby isn't coming – too bad. Just confirmed yesterday.
