AC 34: Artemis Racing with Juan K and Santi Lange
Artemis Racing has confirmed their entry for the 34th Americas Cup on Catamarans on a press conference today and also their lead designer, already known by now . Easy to know for which team I’ll be rooting this time.
Juan K, is the last winner of the two past Volvo Ocean race designer , and Santiago Lange is a Tornado World Champ and double Tornado Olympic medalist with Camau Espinola, both Argentines, Santi is also a Naval Architect from South Hampton and currently working on Juan’s design team…the very best of our local sailing scene will be key on the Artemis challenge.
Juan has never designed a Cat, a drawback you may think, but his out of the box thinking may result in some extreme cat machine.
Photo Pierre Orphanidis, Valencia Sailing , check Pierre’s blog for more pics of them at Valencia while preparing a Tornado for a test sail. Juan and Santi were also present at the C-Class event at NYC, note Juan is wearing a ‘Canaan’ shirt, where they learned some Wing secrets from the top C-Class teams and also they visited wing Guru Steve Clark at home.
Lange and Hutchinson (helmsman for Artemis) are curerntly training in Florida two X40 teams, Paul Cayard announced , Artemis will be also racing the X40 circuit, plus the team members will participate in some A-Class regattas.
And isaf is still wondering in Athens right now if multis should be back at the Games………..
I just heard that my great sailing friend and former CEO of Hobiecat Europe has passed. May The endless oceans…
