F18 North American: Mischa Heemskerk-Carrie Howe X3
No wind on Thursday and Friday, so finally Mischa and Carrie maintained the lead over Macca and Ferdinand. Only 5 races in 5 days. The sailors report that although not much wind the organization and the social side organized by CRAW (Catamaran Racing Association of Wisconsin) was excellent helping to cover the lack of wind.
The Arg crews ended 7th and 23rd, in a 56 boats fleet so another good benchmark for the level obtained here in so little time.
Congrats to Mischa and Carrie for their 3rd? US F18 Nat. Another good example of a mixed crew racing at top level after Roland and Nahid Gaebler took the Tornado Worlds two weeks ago.
Girls have no issues racing at top level or sailing cats for that matter, I started sailng and racing Hobie 16 with my wife for ie.
A good event for Roland Gaebler to organize could be a Mixed Match Racing Cup with 2 Tornadoes or 2 F18s. The mixed crews? Well, Roland and Nahid Gaebler, Darren Bundock&Carolijn Brouwer, Mischa&Carrie and other top mixed crew like Christina&Florian Loweg (7th at 2010 T Worlds)
Also Sailing Anarchy OTW set a milestone in broadcasting live Catamaran racing.
For 2011 there’s NO way that the F18 and Tornado Worlds are not being broadcasting in this way, I mean although you need to prepare some logisitics and learn how to do it, the tech is quite ‘simple’ using a broad band connection and Justin.tv streaming service, no huge investments on TV crews or satellital units. The Live feed was really good and for a major event 2 cameras can be placed too.
Great effort by Alan Block , the SA crew and Jeremy Leonard from SurfCity Catamarans.
