AC 33: USA 1 – SUI 0
Amazing race. Incredible sailing by both teams, a penalty forced by Spithill, a stall by USA 17 at the start. This race had it all.
More power to USA 17 Tri, but A5 has more potential though, so I don´t think it was sailed to its 100%. USa 17 was just flying around the course. Great job , and multihulls in general are the ones being promoted as the pinnacle of sailing.
Still much racing to do, but the Tri has the advantage right now of course, so my prediction was right!
Hard to go back to mono logs after this… already a success for Multis showing (at the beginning at least..) close performance and match racing tactics at the start. Again, A5 didn´t seem that well trimmed/sailed from my point of view.
USA 17 Tri and Wing combo was a display of perfection and high performance sailing at its best, ever.
I agree on the point that Alinghi seemed a bit off the mark in their setup for this conditions.
Also I am looking forward to some more bolder match racing from Alinghis side. They appear to have the upper hand in maneuvering ability.
Even though I think Alinghi will have a hard time it would be cool if they managed to block BOR on their way around the course. At least make them foul.
Thanks for a great blog.
