F18 Worlds in Spain: 3 days to go
With the Tornado class out of the Olympics the main catamaran event will be Formula 18 Worlds.
Top olympic sailors already were participating in the F18 anual championship, and is clear that from now on it will become mandatory attendance for big guns.
The F18 class has been growing outside olympics for years, and current scenario with multihulls benefits the class even more. Founded by Olivier Bovyn more than 14 years ago the class is being embraced by club sailors and Pros alike.
There´s no other multihull class that can have that privilege:
– A-Class: Ride by top notch sailors and several Pros, an expensive carbon boat not for the regular guy.
– Tornado: Pros only class to be competitive, higher costs have kill the class for good, only sailed by 50 crews with olympic hopes.
– Hobieclass 16: Most popular but lacks appeal for Pros
The F18 class has the right ingredients for performance rides without going bankrupt.
160 entries and the ‘High class’ of multihull participating are the class main credentials.
Daily reports as Worlds starts on July 5th.
